~Canal Walk to Nelson~
23rd October 2010
A dismal Saturday and options are limited. I chose to park up the car at work and start a walk from the top of Barden Lane, Burnley. The canal would lead me into Nelson.

Scroll down for photos and a description of the walk....
Stanley Mill
I cannot promise great landscapes and bright photographs in this report. This is a look along the canal from Burnley to Nelson. Luckily I had my iPod with me. The ambulance, above, is permanently parked there. Was untaxed, reported, now taxed for the grand cost of £0. Why not pay £0 on time? You may notice the boarded up windows on the right. Residents from houses on the left broke the windows, dossers, scroungers, call them what you like - if I smash their windows, it would cost them nowt, they might not even notice.
Barden Lane, Burnley
Lots of houses have been "cleared" as part of a regeneration project.
Lost communities, where have they gone? These streets have been "cleansed", another run-down part of town bulldozed away. I could use this page for a rant about all that's wrong with society and how this situation has come to be, but I won't this time.
Reedley Hallows
A pub, that's open. Maybe one day it'll become a museum to a previous way of life. "Low Bridge", at least one double-decker has been decapitated here.
Reedley Marina
This is the Leeds & Liverpool canal heading towards Brierfield, Pendle Hill can also be seen.
Pendle Hill and Oliver Ings Bridge

Seldom Seen
Well there you go, a dull walk on a dull day and then an unusual sight, albino duck. Never seen one of those before.
Mill Development
Derelict mill, I wonder what they are up to here, and who's paying for it.
Tunstill Mill, Brierfield
49.25 miles to Leeds
I left the canal at Whitefield, Nelson and walked into the town.

Nelson was named after our famous Admiral from the Battle of Trafalgar and other conflicts. My word, that was a dull outing.
